Ways to Stop Bleeding Hemorrhoids Using Herbal Remedies
by Frank Young
Interestingly enough, many people have hemorrhoids without actually even being aware of it, simply because there are essentially no warning signs. In fact, by the time you start experiencing a burning sensation, itching, or you notice there are spots of blood in your stools, you already have hemorrhoids. Even though one frequently years hemorrhoid jokes, it is in fact not something to laugh about because it’s actually a rather serious medical condition which needs to be treated effectively. Failure to treat hemorrhoids can lead to serious infections as well as a host of other medical problems. Ideally, you need to understand how you can prevent hemorrhoids from bleeding.
When the veins in the rectum and anus become inflamed, it results in hemorrhoids. The veins in question are located inside the anus as well as just below the skin in the area surrounding the anus. As many people can bear witness to, external hemorrhoids can be excruciating.
Excessive wiping of the area will often result in bleeding and to stop bleeding, there are three highly recommended herbal remedies. Horse Chestnut, Centella, and Horsetail are all capable of stopping bleeding hemorrhoids although they should not be taken by a woman while pregnant or breastfeeding.
Centella or Centella Asiatica is a small leafy plant that flourishes year round in Asia and in the northern parts of Australia. The plant is known to have antibacterial and anti-viral properties. It is known too as Pennywort. The Centella extract is used as tea to provide relief from pain and to reduce the inflammation, and to strengthen the vein and improve circulation.
Horse chestnut is known to treat vein problems associated with varicose veins and the seed extract has always been used to soothe hemorrhoid swelling and eases the pain. However, it is advised not to make your own treatment. In the raw, horse chestnut contains esculin, which destroys healthy red blood cells. Prior to preparation, the pulverized seeds are boiled thoroughly in various changes of boiling water.
Horse chestnut or “bottlebrush” as it’s sometimes called has long since been used for soothing purposes and also to stop bleeding hemorrhoids. Once again, this treatment is consumed as a tea, or it can be applied directly to the affected area in the form of a tincture. However, because of the different levels of convenience, most people prefer to drink it as a tea
Apple cider vinegar is applied to the inflamed vein or hemorrhoid. The acids in the apple cider vinegar will promote shrinking and reduce the itching and the pain. If taken regularly every after meals, 1 to 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water, will aid in digestion and prevent moving problems.
Witch Hazel is another herb frequently used to treat hemorrhoids and varicose veins. Treatments based on this herb can be purchased over-the-counter in various forms such as hemorrhoid pads, creams, and suppositories. While the pads are used in order to provide some protection to the hemorrhoids while they’re being treated, creams are applied directly to the swollen area. Even though this herb can be used internally, it should not be taken in the alcohol preparation one sees in pharmacies.
As with all medications, including herbal preparations, the treatments mentioned in this article should not be used without consulting with a doctor first. This is especially important if you’re taking any other medication or if you have any other medical condition, due to the risk of possible side effects. For the most part however, as long as you’re healthy and you’re not pregnant or nursing, these preparations can be used safely in order to stop bleeding hemorrhoids.
