What Do Hemorrhoids Look Like?

Hemorrhoids are pads of tissue within the anal canal that contain blood vessels and supporting tissue. They help control the flow of stool and everyone has them. In the way that you have a finger or eyes so you have hemorrhoids. If you injure a finger you might say you have a bleeding finger. If the hemorrhoid pad bleeds you would have bleeding hemorrhoids. In other words the term has come to describe the condition.

When the veins of the pad become swollen they can be pushed outside and you would be able to feel them in the anal area. The would appear outside the anus looking like a small purple ball or group of balls. You would then have what is known as an external hemorrhoid.

How Long Before Hemorrhoids Go Away?

Hemorrhoids can last from a few days to many weeks. It all depends on how long you have had them. If this is the first time they have occurred then they may go away in a couple of days. But if you have not been treating the cause then they can hang on for weeks. You need to make changes to your lifestyle and eliminate the cause.

How Can I Get Rid Of Hemorrhoids?

There are two things to consider; alleviating the symptoms, and then making the hemorrhoid pad return to normal.

There are numerous OTC (over the counter) medications; look for anti-inflammatory such as Aleve. Try topical creams for the itching and burning. Products like Preparation H.

First stop the irritation. A sitz bath can be a big help and can be found in most pharmacies. It is important that you not strain when relieving yourself. Take plenty of fiber to help with easy bowel movement. Don’t sit too long. You will have to adjust your lifestyle habits.
